During the 80′s,the rock music scene was ruled by artists like Jimi Hendrix,Sly & the family stone,Santana etc..by the end of the 80′s New York’s Living Colour opened the doors for future rock artists like 311,Rage Against The Machine,Sevendust etc..The group consisted of singer Corey Glover,guitarist Vernon reid,bassist Muzz Skillings and drummer Will Calhoun who formed Living Colour in the mid 80′s with Vernon being the only experienced member having performed and recorded with Public Enemy,Defunkt etc….it took the band a while to firmly establish themselves and for their sound to gel with the people…Living Colour’s debut album Vivid was released in 1988,however it took the band some months to gain the fame and glory…by the end of 1988,the band’s striking video for the song “cult of personality” was gaining immense popularity and was a hit with the generation pushing their album up on the music charts…Living Colour took home the first of several grammy’s as “cult of personality” won in the category of “best hard rock performance” at the 1989 grammy awards……
Beginning with vivid,and moving on to record several other albums, Living Colour showed that rock could and still can send out a message(some of their songs such as open letter to a landlord,funny vibe etc..) The quartet went on to record albums such as Time’s up in 1990,Biscuits in 1991,Stain in ’93,Pride in 1995 and (re-grouping to record for)Collideoscope in 2003…the albums performed well on the charts however, couldn’t perform as well as their predecessor Vivid….soon after the band began writing for another full length album,however being unable to decide on a particular music director,a friction was caused between the members leading to the sad demise of the band in 1995…
